From a Normal Student to a Problem Solver

In my earlier classes, my goal was to get the highest marks possible. I would read the textbook, write notes, and memorize, and I was always anxious to see what the outcome would be. That kind of learning was not very effective, but things are different here.

In this class, we are learning in a hands-on way. We are learning by doing the following and trying to solve practical issues:

  • designing electrical circuits.
  • building things.
  • creating models and prototypes.
  • solving practical challenges.

We also do a lot of projects. There are times we do projects, and to my surprise, I do not get the desired result. I used to think I was at fault, but my thinking has changed. Instead of getting discouraged, I look at things differently and analyze the problem. I then think of what steps I could take to solve the problem and try again.

This school has helped me a lot. I have learned some really important things. I have learned that:

Marks often reflect what we write, but skills reflect what we can actually do.

  • I have more confidence when it comes to asking questions.
  • I have more confidence in sharing my ideas.
  • I have more confidence when it comes to reasoning.
  • I have more confidence in thinking logically.

I have a different mindset now. I look at problems in a different way. When I see a problem, I don’t look at the teacher and wait for help. I try to solve the problem myself first.
